sk1. Alice and Bob play the following coins-on-a-stack game. 20 coins are stacked one above the other. One of them is a special (gold) coin and the rest are ordinary coins. The goal is to bring the gold coin to the top by repeatedly moving the topmost coin to another position in the stack.
Alice starts and the players take turns. A turn consists of moving the coin on the top to a position i below the top coin (0 ≤ i ≤ 20). We will call this an i-move (thus a 0-move implies doing nothing). The proviso is that an i-move cannot be repeated; for example once a player makes a 2-move, on subsequent turns neither player can make a 2-move.
If the gold coin happens to be on top when it's a player's turn then the player wins the game.
Initially, the gold coinis the third coin from the top. Then
•
• In order to win, Alice's first move can be a 0-move or a 1-move.
•
In order to win, Alice's first move should be a 1-move.
•
• Alice has no winning strategy.
•
• In order to win, Alice's first move should be a 0-move.
Since It is Way to Win 0-move by Alice 1-move by Bob 2-move by Alice Make Third Coin top
The Answer is Alice First move should be 0-move
2.Alok is attending a workshop "How to do more with less" and today's theme is Working with fewer digits . The speakers discuss how a lot of miraculous mathematics can be achieved if mankind (as well as womankind) had only worked with fewer digits.
The problem posed at the end of the workshop is
How many 5 digit numbers can be formed using the digits 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (but with repetition) that are divisible by 4?
Can you help Alok find the answer?

Total there is three round(there could be one additional round ie,MR)
1.Aptitude(only tricky questions no english)35 questions in 60 min
2.Technical round
3.HR
Aptitude questions were lengthy but quite easy. Most of important part are in
begining and in last. Rest is story kind of. But questions are pretty easy and what
questions are available in recent time are enough. Beacause concept will be same only
number or name will vary. Time is only constrain. So read within 15 second if you got
clue then solve it else solved at last if you have time. I forgot exact questions but what
i know could help you. Questions are like in this pattern
1. There is ferarri and benz car, benz speed is say 10kmph and it cover 10 km.And if
ferarri goes with 3 times faster than benz.So in how much time ferarri could take to
cover same distance.
sol: as speed of ferarri is 3*10=30 so time will be 10/30
2. If one lady have 3 daughter and any of out 3 have diff, of ages is 3.And oldest is 3
times of more than 2 than yougest after 2 years then tell the age of oldestdaughte r.
Solution: let x is youngest ,y middle ,z oldest. so y-x=3, z-y=3, and z=2=2(x+2) and
put the option answer try to get condition.(sorry i forgot option but pattern ll be
same)
3.One question like that ,there is fabonaci series and you have to find one number
..clue-it based on series
4.area of trapezium?
5.if a person moves 15km straight and turns 45km right and moves 15km straight then
how much distance he needs to walk to reach starting point?
6.if pqrstu implies qrstuv then abcdefg implies what?
7.if there are 30 cans out of them one is poisoned if a person tastes very little he will
die within 14 hours so if there are mice to test and 24 hours ,how many mices are
required to find the poisoned can?
.if atlantic is found in atlantic ocean ,india is found in
indian ocean then which of the following cases are true
8.if a and b are mixed in 3:5 ration and b,c are mixed in 8:5 ration if the final mixture
is 35 litres,find the amount
{ a/b=3*8/5*8 and b/c=8*5/5*5 a/b/c=24:40:25 ans=40*35/
(24+40+35)=1400/89
Ans=15.79}
of b in the final mixture
9.1!+2!+....50!=3*10^64?
and the rest are like passage questions ,be sure to find the answer as soon as possible
within 15 seconds,if you are not
able to do in 15 seconds then skip it and give a try at last.
10. There was a scientist who after doingr e se ar ch , found that color of skin of animals
vary with change in distance. One day he started to chase a beer .He walked 1 mile
towards north , then turned and walked 1 mile towards east and then caught the beer
and
radio-ribboned the beer
Then he left the beer at that spot and returned to his base-station taking a turn
towards
south (walked 1 mile towards south). Then what was the color of beer at that spot?
a)white(ans)
b)brown
c)black
d)grey
11.) 6 persons standing in queue with different age group, after two years their
average age will be 43 and seventh person joined with them. hence the current
average age has become 45. find the age of seventh person?
Solution: Here the question appear as an easy one, but carried a lot of unwanted
sentences and unwanted datas(i dint mention above) in exam which may confuse u on
solving technique.
Let x be current average age of first 6 persons in queue and current age of seventh
person be y. Then 6x will become the sum of those 6 persons age.
Now, let compute the sum of those 6 persons after two years, 6x+12 (as each and
individual increase their age by 2). hence its average become (6x+12)/6 = 43 (give in
question itself).
So now we can compute x from above equation. (x = 41, 6x = 246)
Let now we compute y, ((6x+y)/7) = 45, as we have value of x, compute y.
Ans: 69
12) Horse started to chase dog as it relieved stable two hrs ago. And horse started to
ran with average speed 22km/hr, horse crossed 10 mts road and two small pounds
with depth 3m, and it crossed two small street with 200 mts length. After traveling 6
hrs, 2hrs after sunset it got dog. compute the speed of dog?
Ans: As we have speed and travel time of horse, we can get distance travelled by it...
Hence d = 22*6 = 132km,
Exactly this 132km was travelled by dog in 8 hours (as it started two hours earlier).
Hence speed of dog = 132/8 = 16.5km/hr
Ans:16.5km/hr.
13) 3, 22 , 7, 45, 15, ? , 31
Solution: Here it appear simple, because it arranged in arranged in sequence manner, but the actual question was some what twist mentioning fibonacci series and more over question was in statements (no numbers).. hence first try to understand the question well.
here let group alternate terms 3,7,15,31 (3+4 =7, 7+8 =15, 15+16=31)
Similarly for second group (22,45,? (22+23 = 45, 45+46 = 91) hence ans is 91.
14) In Tnagar many buildings were under residential category.for buildings they number as 1 to 100. For shops, corporation numbered between 150 and 200 only prime numbers. how many time 6 will appear in building numbering?
Ans:
For 1 to 10 - 1 six
2 to 20 - 1 six
Similarly upto 59 we utilise six, 5 times
from 60 to 69 (including 66) - 11 times
from 70 to 100 - 3, hence ans = 5+11+3 = 19
Ans:19.
13)((4x+3y)+(5x+9y))/(5x+5y) = ? as (x/2y) = 2
Ans: 2(simple algebra, i think u no need of explanation)
15) If we subract a number with y, we get 4 increase of number, once it got divided by
y itself.. Find that number??
Ans: 12 (we can easily predict from options, as we take y as 6)
16) Jumbled letters, parakeet(answer)
Ans: bird(category)
17) one question like. (209*144)^2 + (209*209)+(209*144)+(144*144) = ?
Ans: here you can use calc, many(4 to 5) questions were depend upon calc alone.(no
need problem solving technique).
18) Im only son for my parents. (some irrelevant statements in the middle to distract
u).The man in picture is my father's son.(some irrelevant statements).who is he?
Ans: he himself(blood relation type of question).ans .his son
19) It is the class with the seating arrangement in 4 rows and 8 columns. When the
teacher says 'start' the girl who is sitting in first row and first column will say 1, then
the next girl sitting behind her will say 4, the next girl sitting behind that girl will say 7,
in a particular order each girl is telling a number, the following girls told 10, 13 next
turn is yours what u will say?16
20) A man is standing in front of a painting of a man, and he tells us the following:
Brothers and sisters have I none, but this man's father is my fathers son. Who's on the
painting?
a) The Son
b) TheFathe r
c) Himself ; const html Riddle1Sol = The Solution: His son
An Explanation
We can replace my fathers son by myself since he is the onlychild. Now remains: This
man s father is myself, so this man is his son.
21) It is dark in my bedroom and I want to get two socks of the same color from my
drawer, which contains 24 red and 24 blue socks. How many socks do I have to take
from the drawer to get at least two socks of the same color?
a) 2
b) 3
c) 48
d) 25 ; Solution: 3
After first round we had second round in SJBIT college on 28-08-2010 .There is we had
TR and HR round happend.
TR they asked about my project and asked diff between object and class ; properties of
Object oriented language and questions on my year gap.I answered ,be confident and
answer honestly.I got through this round.
Then next round was HR But ,they conducted GD for us i dont know why.He gave topic Why you want to join TCS.We answered. In end Hr asked me to named one person who is your strongest contender in this GD round and also weakest. But i hesitate ,but he forced me to name one person whom i think.I answered .But i dont know whether i
should said so or not .Or should i have to proposed my name?Pleasefr ie nd suggest
your answer. what i did is correct or wrong?Or i m selfish at that time or honest to tell
that name?I am afraid they will select me or not .I am 2009 pass out and avg student
till i couldnt placed and waiting for one opportunity. And they told they will announce
result within two weeks.
Hope this experience will help you in a lot .Please pray for me also. I am trying hard to
get a job.

I am sathishkumar.R from Muthayammal Engineering college.I didn't get any hall ticket from
TCS to attend the off campus drive at MEC, Rasipuram on 28 & 29th August.Because that was
conducted by Board of Apprenticeship Tamilnadu. There was a crowd of around 300-400
candidates in each batch. On 28 th there was 6 batch. There was only less than 15 candidates
only cleared the first round upto 3rd batch. But in my batch 19 candidates were cleared the
written test. I was one of them.
It was a online aptitude test contain 35 questions should be answered in 60 minutes.Because
the page will automatically get expired after 60 mins. And your page will get logged out after
some 4-5 mins in any questions .We faced 4 times this problem. So You have to answer as
soon as possible in each question. The questions were based on logics and a aptitude only.
There is no verbal questions asked for us.some of them were aptitude and a few were
analytical. The questions were like 10 to 12 lines. But actual question was from last 3 lines.so
dont waste time for reading full question (only for aptitude , if all questions will be like that).
In my batch the questions was same with my friends questions ,but the values given in the
problem and the answers were diffrered each other. so do not memorize the answers. All the
candidates faced the time problem. so rush up. if dont find the answer go to next question
immediately.
For every correct answer = +1 mark
And Every wrong answer = -0.33 mark (so dont answer all question.answer only if you know
the answer 100%)
The computer based test had questions from:
Area and Perimeter
Probability (Many questions from this chapter only).
Problems on Ages & trains(Many questions from this chapter).
Pipes and Cisterns
Ratio and Proportion
permutation and combination
and some logical questions
The will be option button called Clue in the page Where u can avail the clue for all question
and formula. But you have to choose which formula for which question.
The questions are pretty lengthy but with all irrelevant statements. I remember one question where they told about a romantic story of Alice and Paul and then right at the end after 5-6 lines, they came up with a question on ages of Alice and Paul. I'd rather suggest everyone to start reading the question from where they find any NUMERICAL DATA.
I don't remember many questions but only a few (and that too not with exact numerical
value). I'll share with u a few questions such that you can understand what the question asked
for.
Question 1: There is a toy train that can make 10 musical sounds. It makes 2 musical sounds
after being defective. What is the probability that samemusi cal sound would be produced 5
times consecutively? ( 1 of_____) ?
Answer: 1/2 * 1/2 * 1/2 * 1/2 * 1/2 = 1/32
32 will be the answer.
(My friends got similar question with "3 times consecutively"; for that the answer would be 8)
Question 2: Peter and Paul are two friends. The sum of their ages is 35 years. Peter is twice as
old as Paul was when Peter was as old as Paul is now. What is the present age of Peter?
Luckily, I had this question twice. Initially I left it because of the confusing statement but
when I got the same question second time with different names of the friends (Pooja and
Prasad) then I gave a little extra time and solved it.
Answer: 20 years. I simply substituted the answers in the statement to find the best fit,
because the statement in the question was pretty confusing.
Question 3: The ages of two friends is in the ratio 6:5. The sum of their ages is 66.After how
many years will the ages be in the ratio 8:7?
Answer: 12 years.
Question 4: (There was a long story, I'll cut short it). There are 5 materials to make a
perfume: Lilac, Balsalmic, Lemon, Woody and Mimosaic. To make a perfume that is in demand
the following conditions are to be followed: Lilac and Balsalmic go together. Woody and
Mimosaic go together, Woody and Balsalmic never go together. Lemon can be added with any
material. (Actually they had also mentioned how much amount of one can be added with how
much quantity of the other; but that's not needed for the question.) All of the following
combinations are possible to make a perfume EXCEPT:
1) Balsalmic and Lilac
2) Woody and Lemon
3) Mimosaic and Woody
4) Mimosaic and Lilac
Answer: Mimosaic and Lilac. I have made the question here really easy to understand. But the
actual question was in a twisted language and it was difficult to find the answer. It took me
some time to get to the answer.
Question 5: A girl has to make pizza with different toppings. There are 8 different toppings. In
how many ways can she make pizzas with 2 different toppings.
Answer: 8 * 7 = 56
Question 6: A triangle is made from a rope. The sides of the triangle are 25 cm, 11 cm and 31
cm. What will be the area of the square made from the same rope?
Answer:280.5625
Question 7: What is the distance between the z-intercept from the x-intercept in the equation
ax+by+cz+d=0. (I do not remember the values of a,b,c,d)
Question 8: An athlete decides to run the same distance in 1/4th less time that she usually
took. By how much percent will she have to increase her average speed?
Answer: 33.33%
Question 9: A horse chases a pony 3 hours after the pony runs. Horse takes 4 hours to reach
the pony. If the average speed of the horse is 35 kmph, what s the average speed of the
pony? (This question was really long with loads of irrelevant statement)
Question 10: There is 7 friends (A1,A2,A3....A7).If A1 have to have shake with all with out
repeat. How many hand shakes possible?(I dont know the exact question but like this only)
Question 11: There are two pipes A and B. If A filled 10 liters in a hour B can fills 20 liters in
same time. Likewise B can fill 10, 20, 40, 80,160….if B filled in (1/16) th of a tank in 3 hours,
how much time will it take to fill completely?
Answer:7 hours
Question 12:KEYWORDS: Sports readers,10 tables,4chairs per table, each table has
different number of people then how many tables will left without at least one person?
Ans : 6
These are a few questions that I could recall. I made through the aptitude round by
attempting 25 questions. Next was HR Interview Round.
There were so many panel in that Round.I got general HR round panel and cleared easily. They
asked me every word in my resume. so guys please put anything what you know fully.
Two of my batch mate got stress interview and full technical HR.So be prepared for any thing.
There were 2600 candidates appeared for the interview. 66 were cleared the written test and
finally 52 candidates got on spot offer letter.Thank god.Myself also one them....
so dont worry about HR round prepare focused on written. Because all the HR were so
friendly. keep smile through out the interview. dont get tensed for anything...
Good Luck guys...

Finally the result came out at 9.30 in the evening ,out of 4.5k students only
200(approximatly)were selected, fortunately i was one of them & i became TCSIAN
Some suggestions
All the question are easy, betweem in every question there are unnecessary
data. Don’t confused with that. First read the question, then make rough calculation.
Try to solve as many as possible. Questions are very easy, so don’t recalculate that.
The 1st question are very very big. So start from question number 20(I ve started).
Finish upto 35 in 30 mins & it is possible(I have done 12). After that shift to question
no.10 finish that in upto 20 in 15 mins(if any problem confuses a you leave that
& you can solve atleast 7 problems in 15 mins , I have done). After that start from
1& move unwards. In this way you can answer upto 24-25,take a calcuter it is
allowed question. Be confident. My suggestion please don’t guesss there is negative
marking. you can solve the problems.
Please go with calculater.& I was nt sure,bt I think the question r same for all the
students. The interview is very very easy.the panel wars very friendly. As I am
suggesting to u ,one of myfr ie ndsonalisa also suggested me prior to the interview &
that helped me a lot in getting through the written,so a very special thanks to my
friend sonalisa & the panel of interviewer who selected me. I hope my suggestion will
help you

TCS has changed its old pattern and introduced new pattern for written test.
The written test consists of 35 questions.
All questions are Aptitude questions .No verbal, No passages etc. Only Aptitude based on
blood relations, percentages, profilt-loss etc.
Time :1 hour
There is Negative marking: -0.33 for each wrong answer
Timer will be displayed on the top right corner of the screen
Most of the questions are lengthy. They are about 4 to 5 lines. But they are eassy. Only
requirement is to be fast.
NOTE: Among these 35 questions few questions are very very simple questions. So first solve
out those easy questions and then move to lengthy questions. There will be option to skip a
question and answer it later.
1. One man want to build a wall the length and breadth of the wall are 20, 30
respectively. He need 35 bricks for one square centimeter then how many bricks he need?
Ans:l*b*35(no of bricks needed for sqcm)
2. one person had three children.he has 7 pennis.then how he can distribute
thefruits among his child by folloing conditions.
a)he can get one water millon for 1 penny.
b)he can get 2 oranges for 1 penny.
c)he can get 3 grapes for 1 penny.
Ans:2 water millon 1 orange 1 grape
3. . 1/3 rd of a number is more 3 than the 1/6th of a number then find the number?
Ans:18
4. In Tnagar many buildings were under residential category.for buildings they number as
1 to 100.
Ans:19.
5. one grand father has 3 grand child.eldest one age is 3 times of the youngest child age.sum
of two youngest child age is more than two of eldest one age.find the eldest one age?
Ans: 15(we can easily predict from options, as we take y as 15)
6.difrence b/w two nubers is 4.and their product is 17.then find the sum of their squers?
Ans: 70 (By using (x-y)2=x2+y2-2xy)
7. I dont remember exactly the question, one logical problem stating the colour of beer?
Ans: white.
8. find category from following Jumbled letters, parakeet(answer)
Ans: bird(category)
9. which is the smallest digit when devides the 2880 gives perfect squre.?
Ans:5(we can easily predict from options, as we devides them with 2880)
10. one question like. formule?
Ans: here you can use the (a-b)3=(a-b)(a2+ab+b2)formule).
11. I don’t have any brothers and sisters.by pointing a picture that man said that his father is
my fathers .son then who is he?
Ans:his son.
12. 6 persons standing in queue with different age group, after two years their average age
will be 43 and seventh person joined with them. hence the current average age has become
45. find the age of seventh person?
Solution: Here the question appear as an easy one, but carried a lot of unwanted sentences
and unwanted datas(i dint mention above) in exam which may confuse u on solving technique.
So now we can compute x from above equation. (x = 41, 6x = 246)
Let now we compute y, ((6x+y)/7) = 45, as we have value of x, compute y.
Ans: 69
13.The ratio b/w the ages of two pwrsons is 6:5.and sum of there ages is 77 then how
many years later there ratio becomes 8:7?
Ans: we can easily predict from options
14. Horse started to chase dog as it relieved stable two hrs ago. And horse started to ran
with average speed 22km/hr, horse crossed 10 mts road and two small pounds with depth 3m, and it crossed two small street with 200 mts length. After traveling 6 hrs, 2hrs after sunset it got dog. compute the speed of dog?
Ans: As we have speed and travel time of horse, we can get distance travelled by it...
Hence d = 22*6 = 132km,
Exactly this 132km was travelled by dog in 8 hours (as it started two hours earlier).
Hence speed of dog = 132/8 = 16.5km/hr
Ans:16.5km/hr.
15..six friends go topizza corner there r 2 types of pizzas.and six different flavors r there
they has to select 2 flavors from 6 flavors what’s chanses to select?
Ans:6C2
16.3, 22 , 7, 45, 15, ? , 31
Solution: Here it appear simple, because it arranged in arranged in sequence manner, but
the actual question was some what twist mentioning fibonacci series and more over question
was in statements (no numbers).. hence first try to understand the question well.
here let group alternate terms 3,7,15,31 (3+4 =7, 7+8 =15, 15+16=31)
Similarly for second group (22,45,? (22+23 = 45, 45+46 = 91) hence ans is 91.
17.cycles and 4 wheelors problem?
Ans: We can easily predict from options
18.some irrivvelent data.in last two lines problem will be there.
One man walks certain distance with 5 kmph.and walk back the same
Ans:A
19.A and B tanks r there.1/8th of the tank B is filled in 22Hrs.what is time to fill the tank
full?
Ans: I don’t know.
20.5 friends went for week end party to Mc donalds restrurent and there they measure
there weights .some irrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrilevent data.finel measure is 155 kg then find the
average weight of 5 people?
Ans: 155/5=31
21.2 pots r there.1st pot is filled withink and 2nd pot is filled with water.take 1 spoon of
ink from 1st pot and pore it in 2nd pot.and take 1 spoon of mixture from 2nd pot and pore it
in 2nd pot then which one of following is true?
Ans: Water in 1st pot is less than the ink in 2nd pot.
22:One electronic problem?
Ans:V = IR
23.There r ten spots in library and each spot has 4 tables and ten readers ar there . sorry I
don’t remember complete question?
Ans: None
24:lion and tiger r there.lion lies on Monday, tues, wends and tiger lies on thurs, frid, sat.
Lion said that today is one of those days when I lies.
Tiger said that today is one of those days when I lie too. Then find today?
Ans:Thurs day
For Remaining problems i remember the topics they have covered they are probability,
time and distance.
Note: don't attempt more than 27 questions out of 35. There will be highest cutoff.

Hi guys, This is Anustup. I have recently cracked TCS when it was conducting a off-campus
drive in Techno India, Kolkata. I was ill from a week. But I knew that if chances fly from your
hand, then you have nothing to do but to sit and repent or to hope for the next one.
On the 1st day was da aptitude test.It started at 3pm.TCS has changed its pattern of aptitude
tests. It now gives 35 questions which you have to solve in 60 mins. A unquestion DT no was
given by them. The most important thing about TCS papers is that in each question, there are
a lot of lines which bear no relevance to the question. Suppose, there is a questions
1) A man bought 26 kgs of rice on the 1st day. On the 2nd day, his son comeshom e. His son is 15 years old. He bought 2 kgs of rice for his father. Next day, the son fell ill. He went to the doctor. The doc gave him a lot of medicines. The total cost of the medicines was Rs.260. The father became anxious of the son's health. He went to vellore with his son. The train fare of each person was Rs.300. Now, the speed of the train during the visit was 120 km/hr. After 2 days, they came back. The speed of the train was now 130 km/hr. Then wants the average speed of the train?
Hope, you have understood the pattern of the questions. The real information lies in the last
few lines.
the questions were very easy. Only you should know few formulae on probability,
prmutation and combination etc. Theere were a number of problms on ages. You must do
them 1st as they are very easy. Also keep in mind the time factor as many of our friends
couldn't attempt all the questions. Skip to the next question if you can't do it. Also, calculators
were allowed this time. So i used it, to solve a couple of questions. Don't panic. Just go on
solving the questions. I could solve 21 questions out of 35.
The results were declared at around 6 pm. I was very happy to hear my name being called.
Then we were told to fill up sum forms. The next day was the interview.
I reached the venue at 11 am. The interview started at 12. I was told to go to a panel where
there were two persons seating.
me:good afternun sir
sir: gud afternun,please be seated.
(one of dem was seeing my cv)so anustup, wats da meaning of ur name??
me: (i xplained.)
sir: ok now tel me sumthing about urself.
me: (i told about my parents, schooling, hobbies bla bla bla......i have told dem dat i sing)
sir den interrupted me and asked wat songs?rabindrasangeet?
i was shocked as i sing rabindrasangeets only.i told yes sir.
sir: ok so wat is ur stream?
me: sir,its electronics and communication.
sir: ok wat are holes?
me: i xplained by saying how holes r created by doping a semiconductor with a p-type of
material.
sir: ok so wat is p-type material?
me: i xplained in details.
sir: ok den Si is p-type or n-type?
me: i dont know wat happened to me dat tym but confidently i told dem dat Si is p-type.(i was
laughing at my own wen i realised afterwrds wat a blunder i made)
sir: ok wat is its band-gap energy?
me: sir its 0.6 ev(actually it is 1.1 ev,but i was cnfident in answering)
sir: ok wat is conduction band?
me: i xplained.
sir: wat is ur favourite subj?
me: netwrking.
sir: ok wat r LAN,MAN nd WAN?
me: i xplained.
sir: ok.wat isi nte rne t?
me: sir it is interconnection ofne tw o rks.
(dey were very impressed on hearing da answer)
sir: wat ismo dem?
me: i answered.
sir: ok now lemme ask sumthin from C.wat dou mean by main?
me: (dis is da 2nd tym i told wrong answer but cnfidently.)
sir,it is a library function which is defined in files like stdio.h,conio.h etc.
sir: is it defined in both files?
me: yes sir.
sir: den why do we write main single tym?
me: sir because dere is no usefulnes in writing twice.
sir: but tel me whether we can write or not.
me: i thought a few secs n den told yes sir we can write.
(the main thing is dat main is a user-defined function.many of da students dont knw dis as
aftrwards wen i asked dis ques 2 my frns, dey also told dat its a library function.)
sir: wat is an array?
me: its a collection of similar data elements.
sir: ok den wat do u mean by data elements?
me: i xplained da integer, character n float type dta elements.
sir: ok .wat is an array's size?
me: i told sir,if da array is int a[2],den dere r 3 elements.so its size is 3.
sir: no its not so.
me: i thought a little n den told dat since each integer takes 2 bytes of memory,so da array's
size will be 6 bytes as dere r 3 elements.
sir: ok .good.
sir:so why do u want to join tcs?
me: sir, becoz i have heard frm my seniors dat tcs is a very gud company
sir interrupted me n told why?infosys, cts dey r also gudco m panie s?
me:i told yes sir.but TCS is da largest provider of information technology and business process
outsourcing services in asia.
(both of dem were impressed.)
sir:ok so why shud we hire u?
me: i told dem about my strengths.
sir: ok wats ur weakness?
me: sir ,i have a bit speaking problem.(i do have a mild stammering problem n so i dint give a
2nd thought to say dis answer)
sir: ok den do u think u can overcum dis?
me: yes sir, with my confidence and zeal to work hard.
(dis was da best answer given by me as dey were very impressed.i cud read frm deir faces.)
sir:ok anustup, tell me sumthing about ur project.
me: i xplained da project
sir asked a feq questions frm it and i was able to answer dem.
sir:ok anustup,nice to meet u.have a nice day.
After about 1 week, the confirmation mail from TCS came and i was overjoyed to see the mail.
Guys, always believe that confidence and being truthful is the key to success. Have faith in
yourself and you will be the winner.
See you guys in TCS.

Hi Friends,
Here are some questions asked in TCS placement drive held in Vel tech, Chennai.
Only 2 rounds. First aptitude round. Online test .
Here there are 35 questions only maths. No verbal and nonverbal. All 35
questions are from quantitative aptitude. Time is one hour. Most of the
questions will be in paragraph type. Irrevelant informations will be there.
But we have to choose only the datas which are relate to the question. I
heard that these questions are prepared by IIT atudents but it is not worth.
Just one week preparation is more than enough. More than
that time management is more important. Prepare yourself on the
following topics: ages, percentages, ratio and proportion, numbers, time and
distance,directions,sequence,time and work,probability,blood relation.
Try to attend 20 questions which should be absolutely correct. There is
negative marking for the wrong answers. Don't waste the time in reading a
single question just skip to next, u can see it later.

right. I finished at 12:30. Then without takinglun ch i was eagerly
waiting for my result and finally my name was read out, 10 names
before from the last at 1:30.
HR round. I didn’t prepared anything for that. They gave one form to fill
it.after filling the form i went to attend the interview. I belongs to ECE
dept. At 4pm i was waiting outside the HR room. Before me one
student(IT/CSE) he went. The interview lasts for around half an hour for
him. They asked him aboutDB MS and other IT questions. Then i went
inside.
There will be two HRs.
Me:good evening sir.
Hr:goodevening dinesh(they know m name by seeing the form and my
resume)
Hr: introduce yourself. (i explained)
Hr: tell me about your project( i briefly presented my project and they
impressed in that)
Hr:tellyour area of interests.
Me:maths
HR:ok. Your interesrs in core?
Me: digital electronics.
Hr:(asked my percentage in 10,12 and degree.)solve this sum(they gave me
one simple problem but i was tensed i cant able to find solution for 5
min(.k.leave it dinesh. What ae the layers of osi in networks.(i told the
answer).do you like chemistry?
Me. Yeah.i like except organic chemistry.
HR: tell me atomic number of lithium.( i told that i don’t know). Then
atomic number of hydrogen ( i told one).
Then asked me some questions related to my resume.(be thorough in your
resume and confident in that).then asked me the oops concept. I told
whatever i know. Finaly the interview gets over.
Hr:is there any question dinesh?( i asked the solution for that problem, he
explained it)Thats all........!!!!!!!
Finally at 5:30 i got the result. The first name called on that day was mine
and got the offer letter in hand. I was very happy. Got placed in TCS for
the post of assistant system engineer and 3.15lacs per annum.

1. Two pencils costs 8 cents, then 5 pencils cost how much
Sol: 2 pencils è 8 cents => 1 pencil è 4 cents
Therefore 5 pencils cost = 5 * 4 = 20 cents
2. A work is done by two people in 24 min. one of them can do this
work a lonely in 40 min. how much time required to do the same
work for the second person.
Sol: (A+B) can do the work in = 1/24 min.
A alone can do the same work in = 1/40 min.
B alone can do the same work in = (A+B)’s – A’s = 1/24 – 1/40 =
1/60
Therefore, b can do the same work in = 60 min
3.A car is filled with four and half gallons of oil for full round trip. Fuel
is taken 1/4 gallon more in going than coming. What is the fuel
consumed in coming up?
Sol Before the trip, car is filled with = 4 ½ gallon of oil
Let ‘X’ be the quantity of fuel consumed for the trip in one direction
The fuel consumed while going = X + ¼
The fuel consumed while coming = X
Therefore, the fuel consumed for the trip = (X + ¼) + X = 4 ½
ð 2X + ¼ = 4 ½ => 2X = 4 ½ - ¼ => 2X = 4 ¼ => X= 2. approx
Therefore the fuel consumed while coming = 2 gallon
4. Low temperature at the night in a city is 1/3 more than 1/2 high as
higher temperature in a day. Sum of the low temperature and highest
temp. is 100 degrees. Then what is the low temp?
Sol: 40 deg.
5. A person, who decided to go to weekend trip should not exceed 8
hours driving in a day. Average speed of forward journey is 40 m/h.
Due to traffic in Sundays, the return journey average speed is 30 m/h.
How far he can select a picnic spot?
a) 120 miles
b) Between 120 and 140 miles
c) 160 miles
Answer: 120 miles
6. A person was fined for exceeding the speed limit by 10mph.
Another person was also fined for exceeding the same speed limit by
twice the same. If the second person was traveling at a speed of 35
mph, find the speed limit.
Sol: Let ‘x’ be the speed limit
Person ‘A’ was fined for exceeding the speed limit by = 10mph
Person ‘B’ was fined for exceeding the speed limit by = twice of ‘A’
= 2*10mph=20mph given that the second person was traveling at the
speed of 35mph => 35mph – 20mph = 15mph
Therefore the speed limit is =15 mph
7.A bus started from bus stand at 8.00am, and after 30 minutes
staying at destination, it returned back to the bus stand. The
destination is 27 miles from the bus stand. The speed of the bus is
18mph. In return journey bus travels with 50% fast speed. At what
time it returns to the bus stand?
Sol: 11.00am
8.In a mixture, R is 2 parts S is 1 part. In order to make S to 25% of
the mixture, how much r is to be added?
Sol: One Part

Hi Job seekers,
TCS off-campus drive at veltech on 14-08-2010, 7.00AM.
Here Venkatesh, sharing my experience.
I attended first round of TCS off-campus drive for those who applied through TCS web portal .
I'm from Thangavelu engineering college, college which doesn't have campus
recruitment.
First round was an Quantative aptitude round, where we have to answer the online questions
through touch stoneso f tw are developed by IIT Madras students. Thisdatabase have 3 lack
questions, out of 3 lack well prompt to 35questions and time limit is 60 mins.
For every correct answer we have 1 mark and for every wrong answer 0.33 mark will be
deduced (one mark for 3 wrong answers).
Questions were mainly from age, ratio proportional, speed and distance, sequence,
probability, work and time, average, blood relation, area and volume and one logical question.
I don't remember all questions, but the questions was lengthy which may carry irrelevant datas for exact question. The matter is we have to pick out the right part from question as soon as possible(15 to 20 secs), because our average time for each question is 1.5min.
As for study material just use R.S. agarwal Quantitative aptitude book, that is enough.
But you must be very much clear about the concepts behind solving problems. Sorting out
different type of problems for example in section speed and distance, we can have relative
speed problem, km/hr to m/sec conversion type problems, speed of train problems, like wise.
I suggest you all to sort out these type of problems from R.S. agarwal and let get clear about
the required datas to solve the problem. This may help you in exam to quickly understand the
question(which is very much necessary for this exam).
And another notable point is you can not find these questions anywhere else.(nothing from
any book).
Some of questions in exam, which I remember is as follows:
1) 6 persons standing in queue with different age group, after two years their average age will
be 43 and seventh person joined with them. hence the current average age has become 45.
find the age of seventh person?
Solution: Here the question appear as an easy one, but carried a lot of unwanted sentences
and unwanted datas(i dint mention above) in exam which may confuse u on solving technique.
Let x be current average age of first 6 persons in queue and current age of seventh person be
y. Then 6x will become the sum of those 6 persons age.
Now, let compute the sum of those 6 persons after two years, 6x+12 (as each and individual
increase their age by 2). hence its average become (6x+12)/6 = 43 (give in question itself).
So now we can compute x from above equation. (x = 41, 6x = 246)
Let now we compute y, ((6x+y)/7) = 45, as we have value of x, compute y.
Ans: 69
2) Horse started to chase dog as it relieved stable two hrs ago. And horse started to ran with average speed 22km/hr, horse crossed 10 mts road and two small pounds with depth 3m, and it crossed two small street with 200 mts length. After traveling 6 hrs, 2hrs after sunset it got
dog. compute the speed of dog?
Ans: As we have speed and travel time of horse, we can get distance travelled by it...
Hence d = 22*6 = 132km,
Exactly this 132km was travelled by dog in 8 hours (as it started two hours earlier).
Hence speed of dog = 132/8 = 16.5km/hr
Ans:16.5km/hr.
3) 3, 22 , 7, 45, 15, ?
4) In Tnagar many buildings were under residential category.for buildings they number as 1 to 100. For shops, corporation numbered between 150 and 200 only prime numbers. how many time 6 will appear in building numbering?
Solution:
For 1 to 10 - 1 six
2 to 20 - 1 six
Similarly upto 59 we utilise six, 5 times
from 60 to 69 (including 66) - 11 times
from 70 to 100 - 3, hence ans = 5+11+3 = 19
Ans:19.
5) ((4x+3y)+(5x+9y))/(5x+5y) = ? as (x/2y) = 2
Ans: 2(simple algebra, i think u no need of explanation)
6) If we subract a number with y, we get 4 increase of number, once it got divided by y itself..
Find that number??
Ans: 12 (we can easily predict from options, as we take y as 6)
7) I dont remember exactly the question, one logical problem stating the colour of beer?
Ans: white.
8) Jumbled letters, parakeet(answer)
Ans: bird(category)
9) ratio proportional problem with age. Sorry, dint remember exact question.
10) one question like. (209*144)^2 + (209*209)+(209*144)+(144*144) = ?
Ans: here you can use calc, many(4 to 5) questions were depend upon calc alone.(no need
problem solving technique).
11) Im only son for my parents. (some irrelevant statements in the middle to distract u).The
man in picture is my father's son.(some irrelevant statements).who is he?
Ans: he himself(blood relation type of question).
As I successfully answered these above mentioned questions, im unable to get through the
process. Then u just think off, that how far u have to prepare to crack this. Take the exam as
serious one and crack the competitive world.
I hope these questions will help you to get an idea on how to crack tcs first round.
My suggestion is first go through all questions and try to answer simple questions first. Its
easy for everyone to answer 16 to 17 right answers, beyond 17 it is very much tough to
answer. as the Cutoff in other cities like banglore and hyderabad is 18.
But in Chennai, i dont think they have cut off, because I answered 21 questions with 2 doubt answers(other 19 confirmly correct). But I failed to get through this round as i got 28pos in list. Only first 20pos selected out of 700(approx.) people in my batch.
As im not very much strong on verbal, here i got good opportunity to prove myself, as the
questions only from numerical ability. So i put on my full ability to get through this online
exam. But im unable to crack, and this exam clearly showed thati m not having enough stuff
to get in to an mnc.
I'm a useless fellow. As i got extremely vexed on losing this interview, i want u people not to loose this golden opportunity, like me. Please take my experience as an cracking tool for exam and try to get through this exam. For this reason alone my posting these questions.
The real matter is how far u utilize your 60 min in test. First understand question in 15 to 20
seconds, or else skip it.
The real thing is each and every question is mindblo ggi ng.
I wish you all the best to clear this round and also to get in India top MNC company.
Please carry calculator with you. It may help you very much.

Ans=15.79}
of b in the final mixture
9.1!+2!+....50!=3*10^64?
and the rest are like passage questions ,be sure to find the answer as soon as possible
within 15 seconds,if you are not
able to do in 15 seconds then skip it and give a try at last.

Ans:18
4. In Tnagar many buildings were under residential category.for buildings they number as
1 to 100.
Ans:19.
5. one grand father has 3 grand child.eldest one age is 3 times of the youngest child age.sum
of two youngest child age is more than two of eldest one age.find the eldest one age?

(one of dem was seeing my cv)so anustup, wats da meaning of ur name??
me: (i xplained.)
sir: ok now tel me sumthing about urself.
me: (i told about my parents, schooling, hobbies bla bla bla......i have told dem dat i sing)
sir den interrupted me and asked wat songs?rabindrasangeet?
i was shocked as i sing rabindrasangeets only.i told yes sir.
sir: ok so wat is ur stream?
me: sir,its electronics and communication.
sir: ok wat are holes?
me: i xplained by saying how holes r created by doping a semiconductor with a p-type of
material.
sir: ok so wat is p-type material?

sir: ok den Si is p-type or n-type?
me: i dont know wat happened to me dat tym but confidently i told dem dat Si is p-type.(i was
laughing at my own wen i realised afterwrds wat a blunder i made)
sir: ok wat is its band-gap energy?
me: sir its 0.6 ev(actually it is 1.1 ev,but i was cnfident in answering)
sir: ok wat is conduction band?
me: i xplained.
sir: wat is ur favourite subj?
me: netwrking.
sir: ok wat r LAN,MAN nd WAN?
me: i xplained.
sir: ok.wat isi nte rne t?
me: sir it is interconnection ofne tw o rks.

March ,2010.Tolal 159 candidate appeared only 50 cleared in Aptitude test. finnaly 33 Got
selelected. Don't tensed about HR round if u cleared TCS aptitude test i will think 75% job u
have done only 25% left to do. So for the rest of 25% u should cool & confident in the HR
round. I was also very much tenced before result out of aptitude test when I saw , I cleared
aptitude test I got some extra confident that only 50 person selected I am one of them. Finally
I am a TCSIAN.

H. Fungus is vastly different from other plants
I. Toxic to fungi will last indefinitely.
One large passage-6marks.
I answer all question from passage in guess becos i have no time to read whole passage care
fully.
QUANTITATIVE: 38 Q-40 M
ALL CAME FROM PREVIOUS YR QUESTION. U SHOULD KEEP ON UR MEMORY THE ANSWER
OF EACH QUESTION .
THERE IS 3 Q FROM VENN DIAGRAM & 3 FROM PIE CHART.
1. Two pencils costs 8 cents, then 5 pencils cost how much
Sol: 2 pencils è 8 cents => 1 pencil è 4 cents
Therefore, the fuel consumed for the trip = (X + ¼) + X = 4 ½
ð 2X + ¼ = 4 ½ => 2X = 4 ½ - ¼ => 2X = 4 ¼ => X= 2. approx
Person ‘B’ was fined for exceeding the speed limit by = twice of ‘A’
= 2*10mph=20mph given that the second person was traveling at the
speed of 35mph => 35mph – 20mph = 15mph
9. Wind flows 160 miles in 330 min, for 80 miles how much time
required.
Sol:
10. With 4/5 full tank vehicle travels 12 miles, with 1/3 full tank how
much distance travels
Sol: ( 5 miles )
11. A storm will move with a velocity of towards the center in hours,
at the same rate how much far will it move in hrs.

3) 3, 22 , 7, 45, 15, ?
